January can be one of the hardest months as we slowly creep through dark cold days, with limited sunshine or time outside. It can be extremely hard mentally and physically. Here are some ways that I support my nervous system and gut with extra nutrients and mindful practices that help break up the day and anxiousness that I sometimes feel when I’m in the house for too long.
My go to Supports for the Winter Blues:
- Vitamin D3 (my body feels good with 5000-6000 IU/day)
- B complex or lots of leafy greens, nettle tea
- Omega 3 or cod liver oil – hemp hearts, chia seeds, flax seeds, walnuts, sardines, wild salmon
- Multivitamin
- Fermented sauerkraut for probiotics
- Elixirs
- Soups
- Eggs – especially the yolks for more B vitamins, choline & antioxidants
- Beef liver – natures multivitamin
- Dark chocolate- contains amino acid tryptophan which helps with feel good neurotransmitters
- Roasted veggies
- Chia seed parfaits
- Brazil nuts & dulse flakes for thyroid support
- Sauna
- Baths
- Dancing and good music
- Bundled up nature walks with Nova
- Visits with family and friends
- Gentle stretching
- 20 minute nap with a heated blanket
- Aromatherapy and diffusing essential oils such as peppermint, lemon, grapefruit, bergamont and Elle Wellness’s Aura Blend
- Massage, chiropractic care, reiki and floats
