Did you know that we have an array of hidden nutrition right at our finger tips?
Many herbs, even plants we consider weeds, are filled with vitamins and minerals that our society has merely dismissed as a nuisance. Some of the nutrients you will find in these plants include vitamin A, vitamin C, vitamin K, B vitamins, magnesium, potassium, calcium and iron. However, many of these plants contain an abundance of life force in the form of chlorophyll, phytonutrients, vitamins and minerals. Some of these hidden gems are nettle, horsetail, oat straw, dandelion, chamomile and raspberry leaf just to name a few. Many of these plants grow wild and can be harvested throughout the year. You can also purchase at your local health food store in dried form. Much like our ancestors did, incorporating these plants can help elevate our well-being, vibration, energy and immune systems.
One way I love adding more herbs into my diet is by steeping them into teas to make an infusion. Simply steep tea in warm water for 20-60 minutes. This is a versatile way to extract functional compounds from herbs. You can drink the tea as is or use as a base in elixirs (warm drink) or smoothies (cold drink). Below, I am showing you how to use a chilled herbal tea infusion in a green smoothie. One of my favorite ways to consume more herbs.
