Things are getting zesty!
Are you a fan of citrus? This refreshing smoothie is loaded with vitamin C containing foods, bioflavonoids and fibre, all of which are important for supporting your immune system. Its vibrant colour comes from the grapefruit (or orange if you prefer) and pink dragon fruit powder (which is totally optional).
The chia seeds are a great source of fibre and omega 3 fatty acids which can help to reduce inflammation in the body.
I have also added in a mix of chlorella and spirulina from a local company called Tripow, which you can find on their online store, at local health food stores in Edmonton or the Old Strathcona Farmer’s Market. Chlorella and spirulina are types of algae that contain very high amounts of chlorophyll which aid in the body’s detox pathways and is rich in B vitamins, vitamin A, K, trace minerals and iron. It provides an extra source of nutrients but if definitely optional if you do not have this ingredient.
