Happy May long weekend! Whether you are heading to the lake, relaxing at home, working or planting the garden, I hope you can find some time to put your feet up and enjoy a virgin or spiked frozen margarita because I’ve got 3 for you to choose from… Or you could make them all!
I’m not a big drinker but I do enjoy the occasional beverage. And when I do I like something, light, not overly sweet and with a hint of lime, so this is right up my alley. I also love that these frozen margaritas are made with whole food ingredients, no processed juices, sugars or dyes.
I started playing around with these flavours when I was creating a frozen margarita to serve at a friend’s bachelorette party which was Fiesta themed. These are the versions I created and now love!
- Classic Lime
- Haskap Berry Orange
- Lime and Grapefruit

To make these frozen margaritas you’ll need a few staples:
- Blender – I have made this in a Vitamix and in a magic bullet and both work great. I must say the magic bullet is pretty handy for hauling to the lake to whip up a small batch of margaritas.
- Coarse salt – I love a good salted rim to go with my frozen margarita. Simply dip your glass in a cup of water to wet the rim and then roll the rim of the glass in a bowl of coarse salt. Once the rim is salted then carefully pour the thick frozen margarita into the glass.
- Ice – you’ll want lots of ice for this bevy with some straws to help sip it, preferably re-useable straws.
- Homemade lime syrup – in the recipes below I outline how to make the homemade lime syrup. It’s important to dissolve the honey into the fresh lime juice before putting into the blender otherwise the honey will clump as soon as it hits the ice.
- Alcohol – if you choose to make a spiked margarita you can add any kind of alcohol that you enjoy such as tequila (traditionally what is in a margarita), white rum, vodka or gin.

I’m a believer in adapting things to make them your own. If you prefer to enjoy this as a virgin margarita, simply omit the alcohol. If you’re not a fan of tequila (which I am not), swap for your choice of alcohol (mine would be white rum or vodka).
